چکیده

Abstract In formulating the Maxwell equations for electrodynamics in the presence of a macroscopic continuous medium, it is common among standard textbooks to simply borrow expressions for the polarization charges and magnetization currents derived in electrostatics and magnetostatics, without much explicit justifications for using them in electrodynamics. Here we emphasize that these quantities must be introduced without resorting to results in statics, and must be derived directly from their definitions which remain valid in the general situation of electrodynamics.

ON MAXWELL'S STRESS FUNCTIONS FOR SOLVING THREE DIMENSIONAL ELASTICITY PROBLEMS IN THE THEORY OF ELASTICITY

The governing equations of three dimensional elasticity problems include the six Beltrami-Michell stress compatibility equations, the three differential equations of equilibrium, and the six material constitutive relations; and these are usually solved subject to the boundary conditions. The system of fifteen differential equations is usually difficult to solve, and simplified methods are usual...

Mean-Field Formulation of Maxwell Equations to Model Electrically Inhomogeneous and Isotropic Media

Maxwell equations were originally designed to describe classic electromagnetic phenomena in any type of medium. In particular, to describe electromagnetic phenomena under the quasistatic electric approximation in media that are electrically inhomogeneous and isotropic, such as for example when there are strong spatial variations of conductivity, the formalism must be adapted according to the pr...

A “v2-f Based” Macroscopic K-Ε Model for Turbulent Flow through Porous Media

In this paper a new macroscopic k-ε model is developed and validated for turbulent flow through porous media for a wide range of porosities. The morphology of porous media is simulated by a periodic array of square cylinders. In the first step, calculations based on microscopic v2 − f model are conducted using a Galerkin/Least-Squares finite element formulation, employing equalorder bilinear ve...

Multicomponent, Multiphase Thermodynamics of Swelling Porous Media with Electroquasistatics: I. Macroscale Field Equations

A systematic development of the macroscopic field equations (conservation of mass, linear and angular momentum, energy, and Maxwell’s equations) for a multiphase, multicomponent medium is presented. It is assumed that speeds involved are much slower than the speed of light and that the magnitude of the electric field significantly dominates over the magnetic field so that the electroquasistatic...
